Finished two sets today and sketches for tomorrows pieces

... and my back is killing me. Simply cannot sit or stand any more today. Found a nice comfy spot of real estate on the carpet and am growing roots for a bit.

New board finished

Just finsihed a new chessboard (from maquette of the Canadian geography) in oil. Have the winter pieces made, and now working on the summer pieces. It should be in cool when dry. Just needs a blue keyline, but it has to be drier to completely polish. This piece specifically narrows the landscape to be less defined between the squares, but still allows for traditional play. It'll be a "moving landscape" when being played: very cool.

So now I'm finishing the next one I have on the go (sorta working on a few at once at the moment).

Impact Juried Artshow, NPCC

Very excited to haved received an Award of Merit at this afternoons Opening. It's a terrific show, curated by Lee Petrie and Astrid Ho. Two of my pieces were selected, with the chessboard and players singled out for merit. Very nice afternoon and some fabulous work on display. These are pics snapped at the show with my iPhone (love this little gadget). Go check it out!

Clowning Around Chess Set

Finished my happy little set of chess pieces. They're going to have their own board, which is started on the ease, but for now I figured they'd look best on a quiet board. Would let them shine brighter. While working on these pieces, I couldn't help thinking about the 'Surreal Things' Exhibit I'd just seen, and how the surrealists were influenced by the cirus and theatre. Last year I treated myself to the Cirque du Soliel, and must admit the fantasy is fantastic. I loved it. If I could ever afford it again, I would absolutely go again and again. Of course, problem is I want best seats in the house. Anyway, I can understand the world and the dream. No problem working towards this either.
